<meta itemprop=position content="4"></li></ol></nav><article itemscope itemprop=mainEntity itemtype=https://schema.org/Question><h1 class="lh-tight mb1 tw-pretty" itemprop=name>What do I need to report to Social Security if I get Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?</h1><p class=fs1><time datetime=2022-12-12>December 12, 2022</time>&#160;&#183;&#160;<a rel=alternate hreflang=es href=/faqs/es/questions/KA-02327.html>En español</a></p><div itemscope itemprop=acceptedAnswer itemtype=https://schema.org/Answer><div itemprop=text><p>Report any change to us that may affect your monthly amount, such as changes to income or resources.</p><p>If you do not report changes timely and accurately:</p><ul><li>You may be underpaid and not receive the correct amount as quickly as you otherwise could.</li><li>We may overpay you, and you may have to pay us back.</li><li>We may apply a penalty, reducing your SSI payment by $25 to $100 for each time you fail to report a change or you report the change later than 10 days after the end of the month in which the change occurred.</li></ul><p>If you knowingly make a statement that is false or misleading, or knowingly fail to report important changes, we may impose a sanction against your payments. The first sanction period is a withholding of payments for six months. Subsequent sanction periods are for 12 months and then 24 months. If you intentionally withhold information to continue to receive payments, you may face criminal prosecution.
