The Social Security Administration (SSA) today shared its significant progress in identifying and correcting beneficiary records of people 100 years old or older. The data reported in the media represent people who do not have a date of death associated with their record. While these people may not be receiving benefits, it is important for the agency to maintain accurate and complete records.

“I thank President Trump for highlighting these inconsistencies during his speech last night to a joint session of Congress,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “We are steadfast in our commitment to root out fraud, waste, and abuse in our programs, and actively correcting the inconsistencies with missing dates of death.”

The agency follows long established program integrity initiatives that identify people who have a higher likelihood of being deceased due to their age or incomplete death reports. For example, SSA receives data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services of individuals who have not used Medicare Part A or Part B for three or more years. SSA uses the data as an indicator to select and prioritize cases of individuals age 90 or older, who are currently in pay status and living in the United States, to determine continued eligibility for Social Security benefits. The agency attempts to conduct an interview with these individuals to verify they are still alive. If the agency identifies someone is deceased, it immediately stops payment and reports any suspicions of fraud to SSAs Office of the Inspector General.

If one has access to the data, they can write a program to siphon from these records. Because they are dead and would not be complaining that money is missing…no complaints no investigation.
I hope it does not get removed. We are in turbulent times where actual misappropriation of funds are coming to light and the difference between reality and lies require discernment only possible with actual fact checking more often then not only prompted by those who have extremely contradictory ideas. They have been wanting to demolish social security for years. What they should have done was go back and made it what it was originally intended for and stop milking the funds for other things. My humble opinion.

There have been elections where dead people have been found voting, why is this so far-fetched? The fact that the head of the IRS is coming out and thanking Trump for pointing the south says a lot He wouldn’t be doing that on his own will

Glad to see the focus on data integrity. The age issue may be a false herring but the continued statements that there is no issue without substantiation is also hard to accept. Why is there so much messaging vs. just stating the facts? That is why nobody has confidence in anything that is stated by government. Hopefully we can all agree that a smaller, less impactful government will make the issue less critical to individuals.

There has been accusations that the people with these ages over 100 years are actually being PAID from the fund. I would like to know if discovering these errors actually resulted in savings or was only a matter of simply finding a clerical error.
