First, we'd like to apologize for the inadvertent post to the list earlier this morning. We're hoping that we now have worked out the technical glitch, and so now on with the show.
Last month NCBI released a new blog called NCBI Insights (ncbiinsights.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). You can read about what to expect on the blog here:
http://ncbiinsights.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/about/
A new Quick Tip, "How to Download Bacterial Genomes Using the Entrez API" on the NCBI Insights blog shows how to download bacterial genomes programmatically for a list of species using the E-utilities. The strategy here takes advantage of NCBI’s redesigned Genome database that links all genome sequences for a given species to one record, making it easy to obtain the desired sequences after finding the right Genome record. The post includes a demonstration script that is easy to adapt to download genomes of interest.
>From time to time we will post additional API-related posts to the blog, so check back often, follow the blog or subscribe to the blog's RSS feed. You can also use the "e-utilities" and "API" tags to limit the content to API-related posts. The utilities-announce list will continue as usual, and we will announce API-related blog posts here going forward. We look forward to seeing your comments, and hope you enjoy the blog.
