NCBI E-Utilities Update on version 2.0 releases of ESummary and EFetch
|
|
|
|
1. EFetch version 2.0 is now scheduled to be released on December 14, 2011. The major changes and updates are as follows:
|
|
|
|
* EFetch now supports the following databases: biosample, biosystems and sra
|
|
|
|
* EFetch now has defined default values for &retmode and &rettype for all supported databases (please see Table 1 for all supported values of these parameters)
|
|
|
|
* EFetch no longer supports &retmode=html; requests containing &retmode=html will return data using the default &retmode value for the specified database (&db)
|
|
|
|
* EFetch requests including &rettype=docsum will return XML data equivalent to ESummary output
|
|
|
|

2. ESummary now provides an alternative XML output for Entrez document summaries (DocSums). This new XML is returned when '&version=2.0' is added to any ESummary URL, and does not replace the current, default XML that ESummary will continue to provide. For most databases, version 2.0 DocSum XML provides richer data content with more informative XML tags. DTDs for version 2.0 DocSum XML is available through URLs provided in the header of ESummary version 2.0 output.
