<a href = "/pubs/cbm/nutritionsummit.html">National Nutrition Summit: Information Resources</a>, a bibliography prepared by NLM librarians for
the National Nutrition Summit, is now available on the NLM Web site. HTML and PDF versions are available. The bibliography is number 2000-3 in the Current Bibliographies in Medicine series and contains 5,498 citations.

The NLM bibliography was prepared to provide an overview and background of the broad subject, and
does not purport to be comprehensive. The references are from professional journals and monographs,
newspapers, and legal materials, and the bibliography also contains links to Internet sites related to the session topics. The focus of the
bibliography is the United States, and most of the references are to materials in English. The coverage is
1970 to the present. Not only are there links to Internet sites, but there are PubMed links to many of the journal citations so that the user may retrieve an abstract.

Extensive information about more than 9,000 brand name and generic prescription and over-the-counter drugs has been added to <a href = "http://medlineplus.gov">MEDLINE<em>plus</em></a>, NLM's consumer health Web site. Side effects, dosing, drug interactions, precautions, and storage information for each drug are available. The information is intended for the use of patients and is written in non-technical language.

<p>
The source of this drug information is provided in MEDLINE<em>plus</em> through a special arrangement with the United States
Pharmacopeia, located in Rockville, Maryland. Specifically, MEDLINE<em>plus</em> now makes available the
USP's Drug Information (USP DI), Volume II, "Advice for the Patient." The USP DI, one of the most
authoritative sources for drug information in the United States, is now in its 20th edition. Because it is in

such high demand, the "Drug Information" link is prominently featured on every page of MEDLINE<em>plus</em>.

The "Julius Axelrod Papers" is the fourth collection to be added to

NLM's <a href = "http://www.profiles.nlm.nih.gov">"Profiles in Science"</a> Web site,

dedicated to the lives and works of prominent 20th century biomedical

Julius Axelrod (b. 1912) is an American pharmacologist and neuroscientist who shared the 1970 Nobel Prize in
Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the actions of neurotransmitters in regulating the metabolism of the
nervous system. The National Library of Medicine is the repository for the Julius Axelrod Papers, which range
from 1915 to 1998. The new site shows off a variety of documents and includes materials that span
the various phases of Axelrod's life and career. These include examples from his
extensive collection of laboratory notebooks showing his early experiments with
caffeine and LSD, an unpublished manuscript from 1994, and a large sampling of
his most important published articles.
<!--

the julius axelrod papers contain laboratory notebooks, research reports, published

"Profiles in Science" was launched September 1998 and also includes the papers of Oswald T. Avery, Joshua Lederberg, and Martin Rodbell. It is a continuing project and the Library plans to announce

each new collection as it is added to the site.
