"Life is just bytes and bytes and bytes of digital information."—Richard Dawkins, 1995

The Human Machine
The digital revolution blurred the line between humans and computers, leading many people to see humans as biological information-processing machines. The network revolution may erase that line altogether. Scientists now see striking similarities between computer networks and ecosystems. Some even describe the Internet as a laboratory for new forms of life. Already, the network environment sustains computer viruses and other self-replicating strings of code.
