Dear E-utility users,
On May 1, 2018 NCBI will begin enforcing the use of API keys for the E-utilities. After this date, any site (IP) that posts more than 3 requests per second without an API key to any combination of these APIs (EInfo, ESearch, ESummary, EFetch, ELink, EPost, ESpell) will receive error messages. These API keys are strings that should be included in each API call and will, by default, allow a site to post up to 10 requests per second by default. We can negotiate higher rates with individual sites. API keys are available now through any NCBI account (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/)<http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/)>.
Please read more about this important change in this blog post<https://ncbiinsights.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2017/11/02/new-api-keys-for-the-e-utilities/> and in the E-utilities documentation<https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK25500/>.
Please contact us at eutilities at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov<mailto:eutilities at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov> or support.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov if you have questions or concerns about this change.
