The ratio of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) to alkaline phosphatase (Alk P) values, both expressed as multiples of the upper limit of normal. An R value of >5.0 is used to define hepatocellular injury, R <2.0 as cholestatic injury, and R between 2.0 to 5.0 as mixed hepatocellular-cholestatic injury.
