Pamphlets

Publication Details

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Pamphlets are short, unbound, printed works which generally deal with subjects of current interest. Over the centuries, in communities around the nation and the world, pamphlets have served as efficient means for distributing health care information guidelines, as well as capsule summaries of a variety of biomedical topics. Pamphlets have also been an effective medium for public health outreach, patient instruction, consumer health information, and commercial advertising literature.

The Library collects representative examples of pamphlet literature to provide a balanced collection of typical, influential, authoritative and unique items dealing with health issues of particular interest. Collecting emphasis is on publications of U.S. national health organizations, health agencies, and authoritative or widely influential institutions. Library staff select and acquire examples of pamphlets produced by influential national and international health organizations and those that present unique health care strategies and concerns, communicate to diverse audiences, inform conflicting opinions, and present information about alternative medical practices.
