We are reactivating the Genomes-announce mail list to use it primarily to announce changes to the NCBI genomes FTP site and other genome data download channels. Announcements will be made about new data types, changes to data formats or data organization. Additional mail may be sent when a major release of new data occurs.

You can unsubscribe from the list if this purpose no longer matches your interests either by using the web page https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mailman/listinfo/genomes-announce or by sending an unsubscribe message to genomes-announce-request at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov<mailto:genomes-announce-request at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov>

To see recently released genome assemblies for a specific organism, or organism group, do a search in the NCBI Assembly resource https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/assembly/ with a query such as this:
bacteria[organism] AND "complete genome"[assembly level] AND latest_refseq[properties] AND "last 30 days"[date - assembly release]
This query will show complete bacterial genome assemblies released by RefSeq in the last 30 days. You can compose variants of this query tailored to your particular interests.

You can also do any search in the Assembly resource and have the results sorted from most recently released assembly to oldest assembly. Open the "Display Settings" menu on the search results page then select "Date Assembly Released" from the "Sort By" column and click the "Apply" button.

The "Browse by organism" view in Assembly (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/assembly/organism/) provides a way to see recent assemblies for a particular organism without having to compose any query. Type an organism name into the "Search by organism" box and select a term from the autocomplete menu. After the table updates, click twice on the "Date" column header to sort assemblies from most recent to oldest.
