Excerpt

Vancomycin is a tricyclic glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat severe gram-positive bacterial infections, including those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). As a cell wall synthesis inhibitor, vancomycin is particularly effective against streptococci, enterococci, and staphylococci. Originally derived from Streptococcus orientalis, vancomycin’s mechanism of action involves inhibiting bacterial cell wall formation, leading to bacterial cell death.
