<h2><a name="head2">AHRQ announces BRIC, a new peer-reviewed grant program</a></h2>
<p>The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has launched the Building Research Infrastructure and Capacity (BRIC) program, a peer-reviewed grant program intended to broaden geographic distribution of health services research funding. This will be done by enhancing the competitiveness for research funding among institutions located in States where there have been few successful applications to AHRQ in the past.</p>
<p>The BRIC program will increase the probability of long-term growth of AHRQ competitive funding to investigators at institutions in States that are eligible for the program. AHRQ expects to award up to $1 million in fiscal year 2001 to support the total first year costs of approximately three to six grants under this Request for Application (RFA).</p>
<p>BRIC-eligible States include the following States, plus the Commonwealths of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands: Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, and Wyoming.</p>
<p>Letters of intent are due April 1, 2001; applications are due April 24, 2001.</p>
