<h2><a name="head3">AHRQ announces availability of two new publications</a></h2>
<p>The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has announced the availability of two new publications: an easy-to-read consumer brochure on preventing medical errors and a guide for clinicians to help them implement clinical preventive services in their practices. See the back cover of Research Activities for ordering information.</p>
<p><strong><em><a href="/consumer/5tipseng/5tips.htm">Ways You Can Help Your Family Prevent Medical Errors!</a></em></strong> This new easy-to-read, illustrated brochure describes the things individuals and families can do to decrease the likelihood that they will become victims of a medical error. </p>
Clinicians and organizations may request up to 100 free copies of this brochure (AHRQ Publication No. 01-0017) from the <a href="https://www.ahrq.gov/research/publications/order/order-research-activities.html">AHRQ Publications Clearinghouse</a>.
<p><strong><em>A Step-by-Step Guide to Delivering Clinical Preventive Services: A Systems Approach</em>.</strong> This is the newest publication from AHRQ's <a href="https://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/ppipix.htm">Put Prevention Into Practice Program</a> (PPIP). Intended for use in primary care settings, it describes easy-to-follow, logical steps for establishing preventive care protocols; defines staff roles for delivering and monitoring preventive care; determines patient and material flow; and readjusts delivery and system standards. The guide breaks the process of delivering clinical preventive services into small, manageable tasks and provides practical tools such as worksheets, health risk profiles, and preventive care flow sheets that can be customized for use in various clinical settings. The guide was adapted from materials produced by the Texas Department of Health and is based on scientific and empirical evidence.</p>
<p>In addition to the guide, the PPIP program offers other patient and provider materials that support the delivery of clinical preventive services in the primary care setting. The PPIP program, based on the recommendations of the <a href="https://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstfix.htm">U.S. Preventive Services Task Force</a>, helps clinicians deliver appropriate preventive services in clinical practice and tells patients which preventive services they should expect their health care professionals to provide. </p>
<p>Single copies of the implementation guide (AHRQ Publication No. APPIP 01-0001) are available free from the <a href="https://www.ahrq.gov/research/publications/order/order-research-activities.html">AHRQ Publications Clearinghouse</a>.</p>
