<h3>Figure 5: Average Call Volume to HELP by Hour of the Day From July 22 to September 7, 2003 (Text Description)</h3>
<p>Figure 5 is a bar chart showing that the average number of calls per hour of the day has two distinct peaks corresponding to the morning and afternoon local television news. The vertical axis is "Number of Calls." The horizontal axis is "Hour of the Day."</p>
<p>Categories across the top of the chart are: hotline in morning newspaper at 8 am, morning TV news report featuring hotline at 10 am, and afternoon TV news featuring hotline at 4 pm. The number of calls increased around the time of media announcements and decreased during intervals between media reports. The number of calls ranged from less than 400 at 7 am, to nearly 1,000 at 10 am, to a high of 1,200 at 4 pm, and then gradually went down to about 300 at 10 pm.</p>
<p>7 am = 380 calls. <br />
8 am = 790 calls. This time slot is marked "Hotline in morning newspaper."<br />
9 am = 920 calls.<br />
10 am = 990 calls. This time slot is marked "Morning TV news report featuring hotline."<br />
11 am = 910 calls.<br />
12 pm = 680 calls.<br />
1 pm = 620 calls.<br />
2 pm = 610 calls.<br />
3 pm = 680 calls.<br />
4 pm = 1200 calls. This time slot is marked "Afternoon TV news featuring hotline."<br />
5 pm = 700 calls.<br />
6 pm = 600 calls.<br />
7 pm = 410 calls. <br />
8 pm = 380 calls.<br />
9 pm = 390 calls.<br />
10 pm = 290 calls.</p>
